Summer, in the Mist

There is nothing like a gray, misty day in summer. I don't like it when the skies are endlessly blue, and the air scorching, sticky hot. I prefer the summer to be a scrambled bag of blue and gray, wet and dry, wind and calm, busy and quiet. On days like yesterday the bugs were few and my work outside wasn't delayed by the uncomfortable elements that summer can bring. All the grass & clover seed is planted, the manure pile put onto the trailer for our neighbor to take to his raspberry patch, and I had a day at home with my children and animals.

I suppose these gray, misty days remind me of when I was young and lived in Washington State. I lived in the city, though, but I always dreamed of owning a farm. It's good to be here, living my dream.
